Tenor and pedagogue, Teun Michiels leads Voice.Academy in Belgium, where he coaches singers — from conservatoire students to established professionals. Repertoire and text work, performance practice and career mentoring shape each lesson; technical choices are made to realise the artistic goal. His in-depth command of early music, lieder, oratorio, chamber music and opera keeps the focus on the music—and on the joy it brings to singers and audiences alike. Teun’s integrated approach combines live frequency analysis, manual laryngeal therapy, mental coaching, and close collaboration with speech-language specialists and ENT laryngologists — aligning technical clarity with musical intent.

A regular speaker at international conferences and symposia — including PEVoC 2022 (Tallinn) and PEVoC 2024 (Santander) — Teun brings current research straight into the studio. He is widely consulted by colleagues across the Belgian voice-teaching community — at conservatoires, arts education and private studios — who invite him for workshops and masterclasses, or seek discreet case reviews and practical coaching pathways.

His students perform with De Munt / La Monnaie, Opéra Royal de Wallonie — Liège, De Nationale Opera (NL), Holland Opera (NL), Vlaams Radio Koor, Collegium Vocale, Octopus Kamerkoor, Psallentes, Currende, Cappella Amsterdam (NL), Consensus Vocalis (NL), the International Opera Academy, HYOID Voices, Tenebrae Choir (UK) and The Monteverdi Choir (UK); younger artists gain early opportunities through tailored projects and Teun’s close collaborations with conductors and ensembles, with careful introductions to agents and impresarios where appropriate.

Teun is founder of Voice.Academy, President of European Voice Teachers Association Belgium (EVTA.be), and guest professor on the Postgraduate “Voice” course at Thomas More University College Antwerp and at Fontys (Tilburg). Earlier performance highlights include Haydn’s Die Schöpfung (Flagey), Orff’s Carmina Burana and Mozart’s Requiem (BOZAR), as well as the Lied album Frühlingstraum — a 2019 World Premiere Recording with pianist Peter Jeurissen on Woodlake Records, featuring the Chris Maene Straight Strung Chamber Music Concert Grand. He mentors the next generation, supporting early-career singers from first auditions to professional debuts. Outside the studio he composes lo-fi piano music; his debut album as composer and pianist Piano Journal (2023) is available on major streaming platforms.
